Self Reflection for Oral Presention

Team Conservo was tasked to come up with a proposal to help identify and improve Singapore Institute of Technology @ Dover’s electricity consumption problem. It was the first of the many formal presentations in my university journey and hence, it is important that I should reflect and do a self-evaluation on my performance to improve my presentation skills.

I was the first presenter to kick off the proposal with our introduction and what exactly our identified problem was. I went into class with the objective to make the presentation professional yet simple. I told myself that I must make an impact to attract the attention of my audiences to make a good start. In my presentation, I included questions as opportunities to keep the crowd engaged. Although there were many strong points that I have demonstrated in my presentation, there were still flaws that I have identified.

In terms of my presentation skills, I think I need to be more careful of using “fillers” when speaking. Part of the reason is sometimes I am not able to come up with the appropriate word to connect my sentence. It was also due to me not being 100 percent sure of my own content. I should not be complacent and continue to conduct more presentation rehearsals before the main show.

In conclusion, I feel that nobody is born a perfect speaker. With practices and more exposures to oral presentation, a good speaker will be made. I should continue to build on my strengths and improve on my weaknesses. Overall, it was very encouraging to see my group putting up a well-done presentation and to know that our hard work has paid off.
